About Us

A woman was dying and her husband brought her to the hospital.  The Social Worker on duty spoke to the family explaining that their options included going home to take care of their loved one without medical assistance or she could stay in the hospital as a private pay patient at $300 a day.  Medicare and other insurance companies have hospice benefits, however the Social Worker was unable to locate a hospital in rural/frontier Nevada that was a certified hospice provider with Medicare.

The Social Worker then spoke with an old cowboy who had never married and had no family.  What were his options since he had never paid into Medicare and had no insurance coverage?  The Social Worker received phone calls periodically from community members asking if hospice services were available because a family member or friend wanted to die at home.

It was apparent that people had varying circumstances and choices in the way they wanted to orchestrate the end of their lives, but limited resources to support those choices.  The consistent component was that death inevitably impacts us all.  The Social Worker's heart longed to reach out to people in a real way, which led her on a path of starting an organization that met the needs of people and their family and friends at the end of life.

A group of like-minded people formed in 2015 and our adventure began.  We chose to become a nonprofit organization with a policy to serve all people in the county regardless if they had insurance or other resources.  We then elected a board of directors of five individuals to assist us in drawing in community support and giving direction to the staff and volunteers for operations.

We are grateful to our community and corporate donors that have generously given to our cause each year.
